Leadership & Management of Teams

Introduction

Leadership is defined as the process of inspiring, coordinating, mentoring, directing and motivating individuals, groups of individuals, societies, Organisations, or nations toward achieving goals or results (Allen and Hartman, pp: 10-62). Organisational culture will affect the people to manage resources in order to perform professional goals and personal settings, the task and how to achieve them. Unconsciously, determined to think the Organisational culture, and how people's conscious, eventually, affect how perception and action feel (Shelp & Ehrbar, 2006, pp. 250-253).

Organisational change occurs when a company replaces its current business processes and practices to the new or improved ones. There are many examples of companies which were forced to reorganize their practices and structure following the technological and environmental change (Reilly, et al., 1991, pp. 487-516).

Mission, vision and objectives of the Organisation

The mission and Vision statement of AIG is as follows:

"As a global financial services organization, we have committed our resources to developing products and services that address the needs of our clients as well as promote a corporate culture that values integrity, diversity, innovation and excellence.” (Congressional Oversight Panel June oversight report: the AIG rescue, its impact on markets, and the government's exit strategy, 2010).

Its mission is the reason for its existence, distinguishing it from all others. Mission of AIG can be described in terms of products and markets, services and customers. The Organisation's mission translates into a job that an Organisation must perform to achieve the objective. Defining the organization's mission is a major step in the formulation of goals (Pearce & Conger, 2003, pp. 170-175).

The vision of the Organisation of a general is a detailed picture of the future of the Organisation. The mission and vision statement of an Organisation is formed in order to set a direction for the company and to let all the employees know about the goals the company wants to achieve. The mission statement of different Organisations serving the same industry varies according to the Organisation goals of that Organisation. The extent of the understanding of the mission statement sets up its mission statement. It is important that the Organisation don't just set up the mission statement as a necessary step, but actually do follow what it preaches (Pearce & Conger, 2003, pp. 170-175).

The objectives of the AIG determine the main direction of activities, including the role of the Organisation (place in society, in general a certain activity, which can perform, among other Organisations of its type), mission and tasks. Formulating objectives of the Organisation is a stage in the process of strategic planning (DuBrin, 2010, pp. 58.60).

The concept is related to the concept of strategy. Sometimes, the Organisation shall establish goals for the development of a strategy to achieve them, and sometimes targets are set because of the existing strategy. Environment influences the strategy (and vice versa), this in turn affects the aims, and goals influence the activities (Humphrey & Over, 2011, ...
