Introduction

Nursing leadership is a process that promotes the improvement of conditions health and life of the population, the achievement of care goals characteristic of the profession, and achieves the goals proposed in the health services. Therefore, it is a social, professional organizational process. It promotes the social, professional and organizational. Given the importance of leadership as a promoter of development, it is necessary more and more nurses have the skills to practice with master this process in the area where they play. The need becomes greater if it takes into account the high demands that are exposed to health institutions. Nowadays, competition, quality and productivity are main concerns. To meet the need identified is required to strengthen the education sector in this regard. For example, it was considered important that the academic community has conceptual clarity in leadership, know what is in the process and master that promote their development and experience has shown that concept has different connotations for the teachers themselves. Some displayed as a feature, others as a process, some believe it is something innate and others the contrary view that can be developed through life on the other hand, there who consider it a matter of knowledge and a problem of attitudes and in the same sense, some people believe that actions to promote emerging only the education sector or the same professional, when in other areas develop organizational actions that complement that effort. It then requires that the education sector engage decisively in professional training of nursing leaders and take action either informed to do so; strategic actions consciously designed to promote it.

Discussion

The significance of leadership for teachers, based on attributes leader's personal, guides the eye to early theories of leadership. These are focused on the traits of the person, unlike the present, focusing on process of influence exerted by individuals of different profiles, according to the context in which evolves and the demands imposed by the particular situation. Recent developments in the field of Nursing also reinforce the focus of leadership as a process of influence linked to a group process where the leader is leadership people toward common goals(Spitzer, 2010).

Findings related to the nature of leadership also showed that there is acceptance of innate component. This may be related to concept of leadership that prevails in the educational, focusing on attributes or traits and not in the process of influence it plays, which is capable of learning(Smith & Moore, 2006). The conception of leadership as something innate is not in favor of training processes aimed at this purpose. On the contrary, when viewed as something acquired, it is possible to implement programs that allow different types develop the skills that the nurse required to exercise this important process of influence.
