Background

France Vacances wish to have the system up and running within the next 14 weeks. Since, no work is carried out on weekends, the maximum number of days available is 70. SD have agreed to deliver the system within the time scale mentioned by FV. They have also agreed that the total development cost will not exceed £14600.

France Vacances Travel Company was established in 1995 for the purpose of developing high quality information system and designing capable intra-network for organizations. With a group of skillful and aggressive IT professionals, the company is famous especially for its suitable design for different organizations, which is regarded as the best in Australia.

Nowadays, we won the contract to design a specific information system for France Vacancess, which is a Real Estate agency just merge two other agencies to expand its business, however, how to make these three agencies operate more effectively and productively became a essential problem facing by Mr. Jones--the director of France Vacancess.

According to the current situation of France Vacances, we firstly completed the structured analysis on the existing system of all agencies and gather relating information from their computing systems, then we implement a series of market research to gather up-to-date prices of hardware and software technology, and finally designed 3 different systems which can meet the operational and informational needs for each office during the initial stages of the merger.

In this report, we will present how we determine the information systems for France Vacances, the relevant costs (include setup cost, operating cost and maintaining cost) of the information systems and the benefits and advantages we can get from the information systems. We are supposed to hand in this report to Mr. Jones by 19 September 2003 as required.

The research has been gathered from newspapers, industry journals, interviews, magazines and Internet Web sites. This information resource provides the basis of a reliable and valid background.

As one of the leaders of information systems designer and provider, our company--France Vacances Travel Company is very proud of winning the contract with France Vacances from the other two competitive companies. In order to return our customer the maximum of satisfaction, we need to complete a comprehensive analysis of major aspects that influence the efficiency and profitability of France Vacances first before we make a decision on which type(s) of information system should adopted, the analysis section will include five aspects, namely, the necessity of a information system, analysis of the present system, determine an information system, costs of a information system and how to operate the maintain the information system.
