Career management of Introverts and Extroverts

ABSTRACT

The field of Human Resource Management (HRM) research has seen increasing interest in studying the impact of an employee's personality at the individual and organizational levels, largely due to wide adoption, of the "Big Five" framework. Wright proposed a typology that classifies HRM research into two dimensions: Number of HRIM Practices and the level of Analysis. Based on Wright's classification, personality acts as a predictor of employee effectiveness and that volume of researchers examined its impact in selection and recruitment, which puts personality studies in the category of single 'functional' HRM practice and at the individual level. This dissertation will try to discover how both extroverts and introverts manage their careers by conducting semi-structured interviews with Full Time Employees (FTE) of an international organization (Microsoft). The aim of the research is to assess the differences between the introverts and extroverts in making their career choices. The research will then provide recommendations to both introverts and extroverts in making the right decision for their careers. This step will reduce the probability for the introverts and extroverts in making the wrong decision about their careers. Therefore, it can be said, that the introverts and extroverts will have a better job prospects for the future.
