Discussion

What is our vision about our world in 2020? The pace of the proliferation of the computer technology will alter the way of our lives in more ways. But the question is that whether the developments brought about by the computers will make us feel happier, safer and connected or raise our current living standards? Or will the technology advancements will make our world tiresome, security driven and frustrating? The interwoven technologies in our everyday activities make common people to become more dependent on the new capabilities of computers and also make it hard for them to find any alternative way of doing things thus limiting the extent of their natural capabilities (Harper, et.al, 2008). In an increasingly technology reliant world, where common people blankets their trust on computers to carryout and meditate their tasks, will these people will be able to adapt the limited usage and access to the computers in times of some crisis? The loss of self-reliance and the independence cause by the computer dependence have created a severe lack of understanding the natural and practical procedures of the world (Shoton, 1989).

Various scholarly sources reveal that in the 21st century, the sharp rise in the importance of computers for the socio-economic developments is one of the primary factors for our dependency on the computers in public and private sectors alike. The demand was positively met by the computer manufacturers by tailoring concepts and designs of customers accordingly. Computers have now become more powerful and cheaper than ever before and the dependence of society on this technology has highly increased thereby increasing the associated risks. For a long time, these risks were considered insignificant due to the enormous promises of computer technology however incidents occurring in the last two decades emphasized the complexity of such risks and long term socio-economic effects of computer technology (Harper et.al, 2008). The associations of risks with computers take to primary forms. The risk of failure covers the failures associated with the complexities of the computer technology some of which are less likely to predict or prevent by common users. Social issues arise when such ...
