PART 1: SCIENTIFIC METHOD

Scenario 1: You arrive home late at night. You walk up to the front door, unlock it, and reach in to turn on the light switch located just inside the front door. The light does not come on! Now what?

Step One: Ask a Question

When the light would not get switched on, the first thing that would come to my mind would be to think of the reason as to why the light did not get switched on (Karl, 2003).

Step Two: Form a Hypothesis

Moreover, thinking of the reason as to why the light did not get switched on, the second thing that would come to my mind in this regard would be the cause of this issue. For example, the bulb wuld have got fused and needs to be changed (Karl, 2003).

Step Three: Design and Conduct an Experiment

Furthermore, after creating a hypothesis regarding the issue with light that the bulb might have got fused, the third step that I would go through is to try and test whether the hypotesis I have created is true or not. Therefore, in order to test the hypothesis, I would then get a bulb from the light in another room, place it in the holder of the bulb that did not get lighten up and would switch on the light switch to see whether the light gets switched on thim time or not (Karl, 2003).

Step Four: Analyse the results of the Experiment

After going through the last step, in order to check whether the bulb got fused or there was some other problem, I would then analyse the result to find out whether the hypotehsis that I created was true or not. If the light got switched on with this replaced bulb, this would mean that my hypothesis was true, whereas, if it did not get switched on this would in turn point towards the fact that the hypothesis that I had created regarding the issue proved to be false. Therefore, I would then repeat the whole process from Step One to Step Four by creating a new hypothesis and testing it again in order to reach a result and draw a conclusion in Step Five (Karl, 2003).

Step Five: Draw a Conclusion

Step five would be based on the results that I got in Step Four, which was the analysis of the results of the experiment based on testing of the hypothesis that was created. If the light got switched on after I had replaced the old bulb with a bulb from the light of another room, this would in turn mean that the old bulb had got fused and needs to be changed. Therefore, I would take out the bulb that was used to test the hypothesis that I had created, from this holder and place it in its original holder in the other room.
