Use of Measure of Central Tendency

The study by Monty, (2007) relates to brand equity, brand awareness and brand preference comparison among the hospital patients. The researcher applied various statistical test to test the result which include chi-square, factor analysis and discriminant analysis along with descriptive analysis and measure of central tendency. In view of the objective of the research, these tests are necessary to be applied especially descriptive analysis and measure of central tendency as they provide key aspects and characteristics of data relating to comparison among brand equity, brand awareness and brand preference for hospital patients.

Descriptive statistics of the demographic data showed that 133 participants that is, 59.1 percent have an average yearly income of $40000 per year and 138 participants that is 61.3 % reside in households with less than 3 people. With reference to the level of education, in the article the data presented that almost 3/ 4 of the gathered sample or 167 participants that is 74.1 % have at least a two year degree. The demographics based on religion showed Catholics that is 21.8 % is less than Protestants that is 50.1 % exceed by a slight margin more than 2: 1.

In addition to this, descriptive statistics of the analysis also found that 144 participants that is, 64 % have been in a hospital either as a visitor or as a patient. Moreover, it is noted that on average it had been as a minimum 7 to 12 months given that their last stay to the hospital. It is also observed that over 182 participants that is, 80 % revealed that they were either were not sure or not forbidden by the insurance firm in the selection of hospital.

It was taken in to the consideration that participants who presented that their insurance firm made it obligatory them to choose a certain hospital would not inevitably have BP/ TOMA similarity since the insurance firm is in command of making the decision. On the other hand, 31 participants that is, 72.1 % still revealed that BP/ TOMA similarity. In view of this examination and the information of descriptive statistics found in eight question concerning the recommendation of insurance firm has mean value of 1.56 with standard deviation of 1.055, it could be noted that participants' do not see insurance firm influence their BP/ TOMA similarity.

Measure of central tendency is also called measures of averages. It determines the average, a typical level (distribution) of the variable. They are divided into two groups that are the arithmetic mean and median. Both groups are complementary medium "classic medium are calculated on the basis of all the series. Average position is the values of the specific terms of the series (items) outstanding in some way. Both groups average complement each other. Each of them describes the fact of the value of a variable from another point of view.

Measures of Central Tendency are one of the three main groups of descriptive statistics. Two others are measures of dispersion and ...
