Technology Management

Introduction

This research report contains summaries of six articles on Information Systems (IS). As we know that, this century is the century of challenges and competition. Business firms are facing challenges every other day due to the advancement of technology and rapid growth in each field. There is also frequent and uncertain changing in organizations due to sweeping changes (DeNisi, Hitt and Jackson, 2003). It is essential to achieve a competitive advantage for senior managers in the competitive and slow growth markets. It also characterizes much business today and references of competitive advantage are the main issue for the scholars over last two decades (Henderson, 1983; Porter, 1985; Coyne, 1986; Prahalad and Hamel, 1990; Barney, 1991; Grant, 1991; Peteraf, 1993).

The competitive advantage leads the success and growth of business organizations in the market. Most firms should know that it is the thorny issue to achieve competitive advantage in 21st Century. This is the main concern which lead to the development of knowledge based theories, which enables to see the relationship between core resources and capabilities. A firm can have the certain competitive advantage if it is implementing the strategy which is not implemented by any other organization at a similar time (Barney, 1991). In this paper, there are six journal articles which, is related to Information System Project Management. This paper represents summaries of each article and, in the end conclusion. All the journal articles represent conditions of project management through information System.

Summary of the first journal: Hoving, R. (2007). Information technology leadership challenges - past, present, and future. Information Systems Management, 24(2), 147-153.

The article discusses the challenges faced by technology today due to several reasons. This article discusses several challenges in adopting technologies in certain organizations and, article highlights some prominent aspects of challenges due to lack of knowledge and, technical staff. Having little knowledge or experience impedes individual levels of performance on tasks. Thus, user speed and satisfaction would be expected to suffer. Macro research has also indicated that higher complexity generally means more problems and delays during implementation. Macro level research defines complexity as the number, novelty, and technological sophistication of new features and concepts in a new technology. At the micro level, technology complexity refers to the number of simultaneous or closely sequenced tasks users must perform while operating a technology. Therefore, we define technology complexity as the extent to which a new technology is more complicated for its user than the previous technology used for the same or similar work and represents an increase in the number of things the user must do at once. For individuals, higher complexity results in higher mental workload and stress. Increased complexity can present users with significant challenges that reduce their ability to perform competently. Thus, in the face of complexity, implementation outcomes are expected to suffer. Sometimes, to overcome of these risks become expensive. According to the report, $4 billion lost in U.S due to these risks.

There are certain risks, which may cause with hardware such as ...
